Teachers and children need you!  Many children come to school seeking the comfort and structure that they miss outside the school walls. Their enthusiasm for learning electrifies the elementary school. Success the child experiences in his or her early educational experiences will be the foundation for academic success later in life. The Covid-19 Pandemic has been unkind to young students.  Students are demonstrating skill-loss in the classroom and on standardized tests. Teachers need help to bring this generation of children  back to their performance level.

What will volunteers do?

VMHMC connects Teacher Friends to the elementary classrooms of Crawfordsville, North Montgomery, and South Montgomery school corporations. Teacher Friends work in the same classroom, usually weekly, giving academic help and friendship to students under the guidance of the classroom teacher. The friend might assist with activities such as creative writing, reading to a child, listening to a child read, spelling drills, math help, educational games, or special projects. To become a friend, sign up on POINT, and click on this link to complete the registration form to indicate your preference of school and volunteer block (day(s) and times).

What should volunteers know about the location?

When you complete your registration form, you will be able to designate your preference of volunteer day and time, plus school and grade level.

School corporations require background checks, but scholarships are available to assist those who need help with the fee.
